As we move into the summer season, our industry continues to face both challenges and opportunities. While housing affordability remains a significant concern across our region and the province, there are encouraging signs that governments are listening to the concerns of home builders, renovators, and the families we serve.

Over the past several months, BHBA has been actively engaged in advocacy efforts at all levels of government. Through meetings with provincial ministers, parliamentary assistants, local MPPs, municipal staff, and elected officials, we have continued to reinforce a simple message: if we want housing to become more affordable, we must address the costs and barriers that make building new homes more difficult.

Recent announcements regarding GST and HST relief on new homes, along with significant commitments toward housing-enabling infrastructure, demonstrate that progress is being made. These are important steps in the right direction. However, as an industry, we know that implementation matters. We will continue to advocate for practical solutions that help get homes built faster, reduce unnecessary costs, and create certainty for builders and homebuyers alike.

Closer to home, we remain engaged with both the City of Brantford and the County of Brant on issues including development charges, infrastructure planning, growth management, and planning processes. With municipal elections approaching, BHBA is also working to educate candidates on the realities facing our industry and the important role local governments play in housing affordability.

I would also like to thank our members, corporate partners, volunteers, and Board of Directors for their continued support. From our successful Build Brantford Luncheon to our Supplier Spotlight Night, and now as we prepare for another great Golf Tournament, the strength of our association continues to come from the engagement and dedication of our members.

The conversations we are having today will shape the future of housing in our community for years to come. Together, we will continue to advocate, educate, and collaborate to ensure that Brantford and Brant County remain great places to live, work, and build.

I wish everyone a safe and successful summer season.
